Sayyidi Musa Abu al Umran

Sayyidi Musa Abul Umran was the biological brother of Sayyidi Ibrahim al-Qurashiyy ad-Disuqi and, on his mother’s side, the nephew of Sayyidi Abul Hasan ash-Shadhuli. After the passing of his brother, he became his first khalifa and assumed leadership of the Disuqiyya Tariqa. He was also responsible for collecting and preserving his brother’s written works.

Sayyidi Musa Abul Umran was a highly learned scholar. He studied theology in Alexandria and later taught at al-Azhar University in Cairo as well as in Isilun. While his brother Sayyidi Ibrahim lived primarily in inner retreat and strict asceticism, Sayyidi Musa Abul Umran is regarded as the connecting link and the organizing and structuring force behind the early years of the Disuqiyya Tariqa. In this way, he represents a crucial link in the spiritual chain connecting that tradition to our own time.

Sayyidi Musa Abul Umran passed away in Alexandria and was later buried in Desuq, laid to rest side by side with his brother Ibrahim.
